The game takes place from December 1988 to January 1989, in Kamurocho and Sotenbori, fictionalized recreations of Tokyo’s Kabukichō and Osaka’s Dōtonbori areas respectively. Yakuza 0 is an action-adventure game set in an open world environment and played from a third-person perspective. Kiryu reports to the Dojima Family office for a meeting with the Family’s three lieutenants Gameplay The next morning, however, a news story the two see on TV reveals that the man Kiryu beat up ended up dying and police are investigating his murder.
After giving the collected money to the loanshark, he goes out with his best friend and sworn brother, Akira Nishikiyama, for a night of karaoke, drinking, and ramen. One night, he collects a debt from a salaryman by beating him up in an Empty Lot in the middle of Kamurocho at the behest of a Family loanshark. He works in the Tokyo district of Kamurocho under the supervision of his foster father and Family Captain, Shintaro Kazama, who had been recently arrested and awaits trial. In December of 1988, Kazuma Kiryu is a low-ranking member of the Tojo Clan’s Dojima Family. Based in these two districts are the two protagonists Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima respectively. The game’s two principal locations are Kamurocho, Tokyo, and Sotenbori, Osaka. Yakuza 0 is set in Japan’s bubble era, a period of extremely high property prices in Japan during the second half of the 1980s. Interact with the colourful denizens the red light district: help a budding S&M dominatrix learn her profession, or ensure a street performer can make it to the bathroom in time – there are 100 incredible stories to discover. Fighting is not the only way to kill time in 1988’s Japan: from discos and hostess clubs to classic SEGA arcades, there are tons of distractions to pursue in the richly detailed, neon-lit world.
